CSUSM (or as its variously known Cal State San Marcos, California State University San Marcos, or "The Chicken Farm") is North County's newest addition to its diverse academic offerings. Located just a stone's throw away from Palomar Community Colege, CSUSM was founded in 1989 on the site of the Prohoroff Poultry Farms chicken ranch. CSUSM currently boasts over 8,000 part-time and full-time enrollees, many of whom hail from nations from across the globe. In addition to the appeal of being a growing campus with state of the art technology, CSUSM's proximity to the beaches of southern California and its temperate climate provide a further draw for both local and international students.
